In order to improve e-learning and give back to the community, the Ugandan government, through the Uganda Communications Commission UCC, in collaboration with Mobile Telecom Network MTN, has identified residents of Namule Village, Getom Sub County, Katakwi District, as one of 17 districts to benefit from a free monthly internet connection connected to an iPad phone connected to households with school-aged children for e-learning and research.

Geofrey Omolo, LCV chairperson, confirmed that approximately 185 households have been registered with MTN cards and that by October 2026, registered households will be given iPads.

Recently, around December 2024 UCC visited the Katakwi district, where they identified Namule village in Getom sub-county, Katakwi district, to be among the other 17 districts in Uganda sampled to benefit from free Internet connections aimed at enhancing e-learning for research among the primary learners.

Omolo, on the other hand, appreciated and welcomed the project, noting that it will help enhance and improve the education process, particularly in terms of research.

Although the main purpose of the program is expected to be highlighted by UCC when it begins in October, Omolo has asked recipients of the program, particularly household heads, to refrain from sabotaging the process by using tablets in functions, bars, and showcases, and instead use them for the intended purpose.
