VP Alupo , Top government ministers contribute UGX 50 million towards Completion of Katakwi Church.

In an effort to complete the construction of a church with a capacity of over 3 million, St Stephen Catholic Church in Soroti Catholic Diocese has received Ugx 50 million from political support and also collected Ugx 18 million from a fundraising event held at the church premises.

A support form HE Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo, along with other top government leaders in Uganda, has contributed Ugx 50 million to the completion of the St. Stephen Catholic Parish in Katakwi district church.

The financial support was delivered into the Church Construction account. While delivering the message of HE Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Crispus Walter Kiyonga, who presided as Chief Guest on behalf of HE Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo, emphasized the importance of collective support for God's work of building the church.

Further, Alupo, in her message read by the second deputy prime minister, stressed that the government is committed to strengthening its cooperation with the church in promoting projects and programs aimed at uplifting the incomes of people, especially the vulnerable community.

She commended the Catholic Church, particularly livelihood projects, health, and innovation, among others. She called on political leaders, development partners, and people of goodwill to unite and generously join hands to complete works.

Alupo also said a mandate of supporting church construction is not only for politicians but also for all generous faithful who contribute accordingly.

The minister for Karamoja affairs and Matheniko County MP Lokii John Baptist, who contributed over 2 m and pledged more 2 m, implored Christians to have generosity in building Lord's temple in order to get God's blessings.

Among the items auctioned were four cattle, goats, chairs, hens, and food items, among others, raising Ugx 18,539,000 from seven sub-zones that make up St Stephen Parish. Simon Areket, chairperson of the organizing committee, appreciated the efforts contributed towards the completion of the church.

Meanwhile, Rev. FR. Oliorero Uwayesu, Parish Priest of St. Stephen Catholic Parish, commended the political leaders and Christians for contributing towards church completion, noting that in the scriptures of prophet Haggai 8: 1.

Isaac Okello Omiat, LCV Amuria, on behalf of Chairpersons of Teso and Head of Soroti Secondary School, was among the dignitaries spearheading the fundraising. However, the fundraising that rounded the tune of Ugx 78,539,000 left for more calls for support as the church seeks an estimate of Ugx 500 million needed for completion of secretase paintings, offices, Virender, and packing areas.

The church construction that started in 2014 and closed 10 years ago was estimated to cost UGX 4 billion, and by 2027 the church would be fully completed for use.
