During the operation, police searched several residences and recovered suspected narcotic substances, 32 mobile phones (27 smartphones and 05 button phones), flat-screen televisions, refrigerators, ring lights, Wi-Fi devices, home theatre systems, numerous SIM cards suspected to be used in fraud, and suspected counterfeit US dollar notes.
According to ASP Michael Kasadha , Regional Police spokesperson for Busoga East, the thirteen suspects, aged between 18 and 25 years, were arrested to assist with investigations into the robberies, house breakings, thefts, fraud (Kaweleze), and possession of narcotic drugs.
Some of the suspects have been linked to cases where young women, including students, are allegedly lured under the pretext of romantic relationships and their phones stolen.
Kasadha stressed that investigations are ongoing and suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion. However, he called upon members of the public who have lost property such as phones, TVs, fridges, and other electronics to report to Iganga CPS with proof of ownership, including receipts, phone IMEI numbers, or other verifiable evidence to claim their property.
Meanwhile, police mouthpiece commends the community members for early or timely intelligence that led to this operation. ‘’We encourage the public to continue reporting suspicious activities’’.
